- 1. Custom mystery boxes let you pick your items through special tools on sites like Cases and Boxy, but they often pay out less than house boxes (the regular mystery boxes offered by the site of your choice).
- 2. Both sites let you earn a commission every time other users open the box. If you have a following, this can actually get quite rewarding.
- 3. Not all sites offering custom boxes are legit. Stay clear of Lootie, as they have been found cheating their customers.
- 4. Try to stick with the house mystery boxes instead of custom boxes, as the RTP (Return to Player) ratio is way better usually.
We've talked about mystery boxes for more than year now here on BetterChecked.
And let me tell you, the industry is changing fast.
New game modes (turning ever major site into a casino), new boxes, new innovative concepts and new sites launching.
One site that launched in 2024, Boxy.gg , added something we think every major site should have: custom mystery boxes.

The name is pretty self-explanatory.
Sites offer either:
- ->House mystery boxes: The regular boxes designed and curated by the platform. They come with different RTP (Return-to-Player) ratios, custom box designs and usually contain a theme. E.g. a house sneaker mystery box, contains only sneakers and comes with a cool design.
- ->Custom mystery boxes: Instead of relying on the curation of the platform, you can create your own box, with the products you'd be alright to unbox.
At the time of this post, only three platforms officially support custom boxes:
- 1.Boxy.gg, with a large range of products.
- 2.Cases.gg, with a highly active community. Note that you need to unlock level 5 in order to create your own box.

- 3.Lootie: We strongly advise against using Lootie.
But before diving in head first, please note that custom boxes are not good for everyone. Let me explain.
When you should use custom mystery boxes (and when you better not)
Custom mystery boxes give us full control over what goes inside.
We can pick items through special editors, making each box truly our own.
Before you start making your own mystery box, think about how much you want to spend. It's a smart move to set a budget so you won't end up spending too much.
The platforms give us tools to add our favorite items, from vintage clothing to luxury brands.
To create your own custom box:
- 1.Head over to Boxy.gg and click the "Create custom box" button on the top.

- 2.We can set our name, cover image and the items we'd like to include.

- 3.Finally, we an decide on the odds of all our selected items. This directly influences the price of the box.

- 4.Lastly, set your commission you'd like to receive per unboxing. The higher your cut, the pricier the box.

Now click "Create box" and you're done. You've successfully created your own mystery box - congrats.
If you followed closely, you might have noticed that two considerations raised while creating our box:
- 1.You couldn't set a RTP ratio. But as you have seen in my last screenshot, it's low. I know it's a stupid selection of items, but the point remains: custom boxes have a lower chance to profit compared to house boxes.
- 2.You could set a custom commission to receive per unboxing. If you have a following, this is pretty insane.
Both aspects are true for Cases.gg as well.
Before you pack your custom box, make sure to look into the items you want to add.
This got me thinking.
Conclusion to custom mystery boxes
It's best to go for the house boxes. Your chance to get more for your money is considerably higher.
If you're after a set of special products, that can't be found in house boxes, go create your own box on platforms like Boxy.gg or Cases.gg.
It's always important to remember that you shouldn't open mystery boxes for the sake of making a profit. They are entertainment, and the house wins. Always.
This is especially true for custom boxes.
Still, I think they are worth a try.
